Corporates - Reach Out with SMS

A community site on a ZD Net website reports that corporate clients can use SMS marketing solutions to ensure that customers remain loyal to their services. They can also acquaint target users with special deals and offers, or new and innovative products that have just been launched. The interactivity of these solutions could ensure that clients get a response from their users, which in turn would help them to enhance the quality and the level of their services. Moreover, customer interest can be generated using the platform of popular competitions, which could also double up as a source of revenue.

Archie

Blyk, the advertiser-funded free mobile phone service, has hit its target of 100,000 users. Launched just 5 months ago, the service is exclusively for 16-24 year olds. In exchange for agreeing to receive up to six commercial messages a day, users are given 43 minutes of talk and 217 texts free each month. The ads range from coupons for Lucozade to student travel discounts. Yankee Group analyst Declan Lonergan said: "Blyk has the potential to fundamentally change the way mobile communication services are consumed and provided. The fact that it is looking like having early success means it will almost certainly be copied."

Sara

According to Google, the iPhone generates 50 times more searches than any other mobile handset.

“We thought it was a mistake and made our engineers check the logs again,” says Vic Gundotra, head of Google’s mobile operations.

He observed that if other mobile manufacturers begin to implement full web browsing capabilities in their devices then that should drive mobile search to overtake search activity from computers within the next few years.

And in the UK ,O2 recently confirmed the iPhone to be driving "unheard of data traffic" on the mobile network.

Sara

By PAUL SIMS (Daily Mail:3rd January 2008)

This 6ft tower of paper and cardboard is a year's worth of junk mail delivered to just one house.

Anne Cohen decided to collect the stack of bumph to show how companies are bombarding homeowners.

Since January 1, 2007, she has jammed every piece shoved through her door on to a spike set in her front garden.

And for the past three months she has had to use a kitchen chair to reach the top of the pile.

Astonishingly, the collection does not include any unsolicited post sent via Royal Mail - but only leaflets dropped off by hand.

Had 54-year- old Miss Cohen added the Royal Mail deliveries to the pile, she would have needed two more spikes.

'It's amazing when you see how much material is there,' she said

at her home in Fenham, Newcastle upon Tyne. 'It is such a waste of paper, inks and energy as most people just pick this sort of stuff up by the armful and bin it.

'The column has become a talking point and a lot of people stop and speak to me about it. They

just can't believe how much is there because they get the same.'

Miss Cohen, an artist who graduated in art and design from Chelsea Art School and took an MA in art and the environment at Sunderland University, now hopes the spike will be displayed in a gallery. 'You would think that people delivering the leaflets wouldn't put them through the door when they see the spike, but they still do,' she added.

British households receive 3.4billion items of junk mail through the post every year, of which 750million go straight into the bin.

Research carried out by Marketing magazine and Nielsen Media Research revealed that 22 per cent of direct mail, much of it from banks and credit card companies, is never opened.

The issue of junk mail came to national attention in 2006 after Royal Mail suspended a postman in Wales for putting leaflets through doors advising homeowners how to block the junk.

Roger Annies, who was taken off his round and switched to sorting office duties, received massive support from the public for his actions.

See full article here
